Lady Bulldogs Lose Softball Opener to Jackson County
The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldog softball season opened this week.
Last Monday night the Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs softball team was scheduled to open the season at home against Pickett County but that game was cancelled so the Lady Bulldogs had to wait until Tuesday night to welcome the Lady Blue Devils from Jackson County to the Dog Pound and the Girls from Jackson County spoiled the home opener for the Lady Bulldogs by claiming a hard fought victory by a score of 4-3.
Both teams had chances to score runs early in this game but good defense and clutch pitching by both teams kept this game scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Lady Bulldog Sherena Swoner reached on a Lady Blue Devil error and advanced to third base on a wild pitch and a fielders choice and then scored the first run of the game on a passed ball to give the Lady Bulldogs a 1-0 lead which they held on to until the top of the sixth inning when Jackson County tied the game on back to back doubles by Oliva Hix and Brittany Ellis.
The top of the seventh inning proved to be the downfall for the Lady Bulldogs as Jackson County pushed across 3 runs on four singles by Cayla Synder and Kierston Schuster and the third single by Christina Cassetty scored 2 of the three runs and another single by Linda Stafford put Cassety on third base where she scored what proved to be the winning run on a passed ball to send the game to the bottom of the seventh inning with Jackson County holding a 4-1 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs would mount a rally by scoring 2 runs as Shanna Jones reached on a error with one out and with the Lady Bulldogs down to their last out Kalisha Lynch kept the rally going by slapping a double to right field and both Jones and Lynch scored on a single by Sherena Swoner to bring the Lady Bulldogs to within one run of catching the Lady Blue Devils but Kristen Davis popped out to end the game and spoil the season opener for the Lady Bulldogs as they lost 4-3.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to the Dog Pound on Monday Night to take on Trousdale County.Game time is Five p.m.
