MCHS Softball Season Off to 5-1 Start

The MCHS Softball team is off to a great 2012 Season. The Tigerettes are off to a fast start, and picked up two more wins this past week.

 
On Monday, March 19th MCHS hosted the Clay County Lady Bulldogs.  Macon jumped on Clay County early and Mary Belton, Katie Reid, Chelsea Carter, and Jessica Lancaster all plated runs. Macon scored again in the second on a hit from Becca Ballou, a walk by Belton, and a hit by Reid (2 RBIs). Belton and Reid scored again in the 4th and Clara Howser drove in Savanna Harper and Katherine Goad who reached on a hit and error. Chelsea Carter gets credit for the win and the final score in 5 innings was MCHS 10 Clay County 0.

Macon County traveled to Portland on Friday, March 23rd.  Macon struck first with one run in the top of the first, but Portland plated two of their own in the bottom of the first. MCHS would strike in the second with three runs, followed by one from Portland. After two innings Macon led 4-3. Macon scored one in the 4th while Portland tied the game in the 5th inning. The Tigerettes were able to plate the winning run in the final inning and hold on for the victory by a final score of 6-5. Chelsea Carter once again gets the win. 

Coach Monica Braswell has selected the first two “Players of the Week” this season. For the first week Chelsea Carter earned the honor. In 14 innings she has given up 9 hits and only 1 earned run while recording 10 strikeouts and allowing only 4 walks. In the second week Katie Reid was selected. Katie has gone 5 for 7 with 2 singles, and three doubles while driving in 5 RBI’s. She has been delivering clutch hits when they were needed earning her the “Player of the Week” honor.

The Tigerettes have a busy week this week. They will travel to Pope John Paul on the 26th and White House on the 27th. Macon will host Greenbrier on the 29th and then travel to Cookeville to play in a tournament on the 30th and 31st.
