RBS Lady Bulldog Softball

RBS Lady Bulldogs

The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldog softball team knew they had their hands full when the Lady Tigerettes from Gordonsville are the opponent as was the case last Tuesday night.

The prohibitive favorite in this game was the Lady Tigerettes and they came to play hanging a 12-0 defeat on the Lady Bulldogs.

Gordonsville and Friendship Christian are tied for first place in district 8 and they are every bit deserving of their position. The Lady Tigerettes are as good as any team Red Boiling Springs will play this year with one possible exception and that team is Friendship Christian who the Lady Bulldogs will take on tonight. Back to back games against the two top teams in the district is a tough assignment.

The Lady Bulldogs managed just one hit off the Star lefthander from Gordonsville and that hit belonged to Conner Murphy who slapped a single to center-field in the fifth inning. Kesha Davis drew a walk to account for the only two Lady Bulldog runners in the game.

Red Boiling Springs has played shorthanded all year when their best player in my opinion decided she wanted to put all her attention on track because she has an excellent chance to get a scholarship in that sport so no blame can be placed on that youngster but at the same time it really hurts the softball team. The coaching staff at Red Boiling Springs has done a great job mixing and matching players because of injuries and players missing games due to other school activities.

Red Boiling Springs and Friendship Christian have had some classic battles in high school girls fast pitch softball, and The Lady Bulldogs have suffered through some very close defeats where a hit here and maybe a base hit there, would have brought victory to the Lady Bulldogs. Most of the time, those timely hits have been on the Commanders side, but last Thursday night the Lady Bulldogs suffered a tough 10-1 loss in what might be the last time David and Cindy Porter have to bear the brunt of losing to the very powerful Lady Commanders unless they meet in the district tournament.

Unless you have been out of town or out of touch with the softball program at Red Boiling Springs, then you know that they are in their final year of coaching the Lady Bulldogs. We will have a very special report on the Porter Family in a couple of weeks so please do not miss our tribute to what they contributed to the Softball program at Red Boiling Springs over the past 12 years.

More about last night’s game and the bright spot for the Lady Bulldogs was a ringing double by Katie Greanead and an RBI single by Taylor Coffelt that accounted for the lone Lady Bulldog run.

This was one of those games where the Lady Bulldogs thought they might sneak up on the Lebanon based girls but Friendship is just too good to let that happen.
Red Boiling Springs, like other schools in this district, have a tough time competing year in and year out against schools that offer scholarships while we take the kids that come through the system and do the very best that we can do. This is a system that is not going to change so get used to it. Friendship is a great school and they turn out some great kids but is very hard to compete against schools that offer scholarships and other benefits that regular public schools do not. Red Boiling Springs does compete very well at times and we take great pride in that.
