MCHS Baseball Looks to Postseason

The Macon County High School Baseball team didn’t finish the season as strong as they had hoped.

After winning their first two district games, sporting a 6-4 record after the third week of the season, and being in second place in District 9 AA, the Tigers hit a tough spot in the road.

On Monday April 23rd MCHS hosted a district contest against Greenbrier. Many thought that the final home and away matches against the Bobcats would be pivotal for the final District 9AA standings for MCHS. As it turned out, it wouldn’t have made a difference for the Tigers. Greenbrier struck first and Macon battled back but just couldn’t seem to find a rhythm. This game was much closer than the score, as the Tigers committed some unforced errors late in the game that led to Bobcat runs. Greenbrier takes the first game by a final score of 8-1.

The next day, Macon County would travel to Greenbrier for the return engagement. This game wound up even worse as the Bobcats run the Tigers and won by a final score of 11-1. Sophomore Shane Hesson hit a towering home run and scored the only run for Macon.

This week Macon County will play non conference games before the District 9AA tournament begins. On Monday the 30th Macon is scheduled to travel to Friendship Christian and then host Gordonsville on Tuesday May 1st. It appears that the Tigers will have to play the Eagles from Westmoreland in the play-in-game. The District 9AA tournament begins play on Monday May 7th.
