Tigerette Softball Season Finale at 9AA Tournament

5-08mchsgsb

A long tough season for the Macon County Softball team concluded this week at the District 9AA tournament in White House. The Tigerettes needed to win at least one game to advance in the tournament.

On Wednesday May 2nd the Tigerettes faced the Lady War Eagles from Sycamore. Macon had beaten the Lady Eagles in both of their previous district games. The old adage is that it is tough to beat the same team three times in a season rang true for MCHS. This game was a back and forth contest, with six different lead changes. Macon grabbed the lead in the sixth inning 6-4 but just couldn’t hold on as Sycamore scored three in the seventh and grabbed the win 7-6. Katie Reid goes 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and Mary Belton is 1 for 4 with 1 home run, 2 runs scored, and 4 RBIs.

On Friday May 4th, Macon would face the Lady Bobcats from Greenbrier. This game was a “play-to-stay” situation for both teams. Greenbrier won both of the games during the regular season, but Macon couldn’t muster that third game win. The Lady Cats jumped on MCHS in the top of the first inning and never looked back winning the game by a final score of 4-2.

This season the Tigerettes will say goodbye to two members of the class of 2012. Seniors Katie Reid and Jessica Lancaster will be sorely missed from this squad. Fans wish them much success in everything they do in the future.

Next season looks bright for the Tigerettes. MCHS should return a stable of starters with a good deal of experience for the 2013 spring campaign. Next year’s team should be very competitive due to that experience and some depth. Everyone looks forward to seeing Coach Braswell and the girls from Macon next spring.
