The Macon County High School Track team had a strong showing at the Sectional Finals held last week.

The Mid-TN Sectional Finals were held at David Lipscomb in Nashville on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

The MCHS Girls Team had a great showing, finishing in 8th place as a team. Senior Katelyn Bean placed 2nd in the Shot Put and 2nd in Discus and was joined by Senior Michaela Thompson finishing third in the Discus. Sophomore distance runner Katie Swindle finished 4th in the 3200m and Junior Katie Hix finished 7th in the 1600m. The Girls 4x800m Relay Team consisting of Katie Hix, Junior Terra Pryor, Sophomore Jasmine Chapperro, Katie Swindle, and Freshman Logan Hernandez finished 4th.

Senior distance runner Andrew Emberton finished in 7th place in the boys 1600m. He has been a strong track and field and cross country competitor during his career at Macon County High School.

Three individuals and one relay team qualified for the state meet in Murfreesboro. Bean will be making her third appearance at the state meet in the discus throw and her first in the shot. Thompson is making her first appearance in the discus. Swindle is competing for the second time at state in the 3200m. This makes the first time a girl’s relay team from MCHS has qualified for the state meet. The only other relay teams were in 2003 in the 4×400(finishing 5th) and in 2010 in the 4×800(3rd) for the boys.

The Blue Cross Spring Fling 2012 Track & Field meet will be held at the track at Middle Tennessee State University on Wednesday May 23rd and Thursday May 24th. Swindle is scheduled to compete at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Bean and Thompson will compete at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday while Bean will throw shot at 12:15 p.m. The relay team will run sometime after 6 p.m. Thursday night.

Good Luck to these competitors at State!
