My View from the Press Box- Jo Byrns

The Tigers traveled to Cedar Hill, Tn. Friday night to take on 1A power Jo Byrns.

Jo Byrns held a # 7 state ranking coming into the game as the Tigers are rebuilding with new head coach Randall Smith.

The game was a classic defensive struggle with Jo Byrns maintaining the advantage in field position for most of the first half which ended in a 0-0 tie.  The Tigers received the ball to start the second half and moved across midfield but were forced to punt.  The Red Devils marched 94 yards in 12 played and scored with 1:00 to in the 3rd. The PAT was good and JB led 7-0.  The Tigers mounted a drive late in the 4th but stalled at the 14 yard line of Jo Byrns.  The Red Devils ran out the final minute with 2 kneel downs and handed the Tigers the 1st loss of the season.

The Tigers mounted only 102 offensive yards.  Passing Aaron Carter was 3 of 10 for 42 yards and 1 int.  Shane Hesson led all rushers with 13 carries for 46 yards.  KJ Kitchens lead all tacklers with 9 tackles, 1 sack, and 4 Tackles-For-Loss(TFL).

After the game Coach Smith said “we will work hard to correct our mistakes but we have to learn to believe in ourselves and trust one another.  There were a lot of great individual efforts but we need to focus our efforts toward team goals in order to be successful.”

The Tigers will travel to the Creek Bank this Friday night to take on the Trousdale County Yellow Jackets.  Game time is 7:00 pm and “I’ll see you at the game.”
