Mixed Results for Macon Fans in Hall of Fame Games
Macon County played in the preseason Hall of Fame Games this past week with mixed results. They hosted Livingston on Tuesday the 13th and traveled to Jackson County on Friday the 16th.
Livingston Academy came to town for the first Hall of Fame Game. The Lady Wildcats came out hot and had seven different scorers in the first half. Livingston led by as much as 15 in the third quarter before Macon cut the lead to nine with five minutes to go. The Lady Cats go 6 of 8 from the free throw line down the stretch and hold on to defeat Macon by a score of 71-57.
Scoring for MCHS was: Kelsy Gregory 23, Kailyn Brooks 12, Terra Pryor 15, Briley Driver 3, and Leah Anderson 4. Whitney Wilburn, Reese Shrum, Lyndsey Belton, and Macy Kemp all played but did not score.
The Tigers faced a short-handed Wildcat squad. With seven players still in the TSSAA Football play-offs, LA only brought five players to play the game. The Wildcats played hard and led at the half. However, pressure and the lack of substitutes for Livingston just wore them down. With 4 minutes to go LA trailed by 6 but their high scorer fouled out and they finished the game with four players. Final score was MCHS 66 LA 58.
Scoring for MCHS was: Aaron Carter 7, Trey McPherson 13, Peyton Clark 8, Dalton Shrum 14, Tyler Clark 11, Dillon McCormick 10, and Austin McClard 3. Justin Tucker, Daniel Gregory, Mayson Shrum, and Evan Perrigo all played but did not score.
On Friday the 15th, the Tigers and Tigerettes traveled to Gainesboro to take on the Blue Devils. The girls game started with a technical foul assessed on the Tigerettes for the way they entered the court which put Coach Beam on a short leash for the contest. The Lady Devils jumped on the Tigerettes early by Kentucky signee Jaycee Coe’s 15 first half points. The girls from Macon mount a great comeback but just cannot get it done and Jackson County gets the win with the final score MCHS 58 JCHS 60.
Scoring was: Gregory 8, Brooks 25, Pryor 11, Driver 7, Shrum 3, and Belton 4. Wilburn played but did not score. Leah Anderson did not play due to an injury suffered against Livingston but she should return to action soon.
In the boy’s contest, fouls and free throws were the weapon of choice for these young men in the first half as neither team could settle into much of a half court rhythm. At the half the Blue Devils led 44-36. The Tigers were able to take the lead in the fourth period by scoring 30 points and Coach Welch was able to empty the bench. Final score was MCHS 82 JCHS 69.
Scoring was: Carter 4, McPherson 19, P. Clark 7, D. Shrum 15, T. Clark2, McCormick 4, Tucker 2, Hill 1, and Perrigo 3. Gregory, McClard, M. Shrum, Bret Davis, and Trace McPherson all played but did not score.
This week the Tigers host Clay Co on the 19th, travel to Trousdale Co on the 20th, and play in the Lebanon Classic on the 23rd and 24th of November.
