RBS Homecoming 2013: Pickett County

01-29rbsbb

The 2013 Basketball Homecoming was held on Friday January 25th, 2013. Red Boiling Springs hosted Pickett County on this cold evening.

The Lady Bulldogs ran out to a 8-2 lead and never trailed in this game and led by as many as 19 at one point in the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs could have had a lot bigger lead had they made 70 percent of their free throws. Pickett County head coach Brent Smith starts four freshmen and the maturing process has not set in yet. First half scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was Mayson Burgener who had 8 points, Kalisha Lynch with 6 points, Kaitlyn McCarter had 5 points, and Kelsey Jenkins had a 2 points.

The Lady Bulldogs came out hot in the third quarter scoring the first 7 points and this ball game was about to get away from Pickett County. Mayson Burgener scored 6 big points in the quarter while Kelsey Jenkins and Kaitlyn McCarter hit back to back 3 pointers and Katie Hix made a 2 point basket and the Lady Bulldogs took a 35-20 lead into the fourth quarter. RBS was able to coast home and take the victory by a final score of 49-39.

Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs-Mayson Burgener with 18-Kalisha Lynch with 11 points-Kaitlyn McCarter with 8 points-Kelsey Jenkins with 5 points-Hannah Smith 3 points-Katie Hix and McKenzie Hix with 2 points each.

The Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs had just gotten thru watching the Lady Bulldogs have a big win over Pickett County and now it is their turn to see if they can put some kind of game plan together.

What the Bulldogs failed to do in the first half was a combination of turnovers and poor shot selection. Pickett County has an excellent team and with their superior speed and size they were able to trap the Bulldogs into turnovers, just trying to get the ball down court.

The Bulldogs seven points in the first half came from a 3 pointer by Skylar Holden and baskets by Nick Deckard and Brince Crouch. As this game progressed into the second half the Bulldogs started to change their offense and some shots started to fall especially from 3 point range. The Bulldogs nailed six 3 pointers for the game but only had four 2 point baskets.

By the end of the third quarter this game had gotten out of hand and both coaches chose to use the bench and everyone from both teams got to see action. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Brince Crouch with 10 points, Nick Deckard 6 points, Alex Mullinex 6 points, and Zane Roberts 6 points, Skylar Holden 3 points, Dallas Greanead 2 points, and Ty Tuck had one point. Final score Pickett County 63 RBS 34.
