17th Annual Lioness Lions Club Variety Show this Saturday
For the past 16 years, this event has provided sell-out audiences of all ages with sidesplitting comedy, music and dance – all performed by local talents.
The 17th Annual Lafayette Lioness Lion Club Variety Show will be held in the Macon County Junior High School Auditorium, with Macon County native and former Channel 4 News Anchor Terri Merryman emceeing the evening’s events.
Many memorable acts from years past will take the stage again, joined by a few debuting performers.
This year’s acts include Jason Gammons, Zack West, Chris Farley, Randy Dillehay, Carolyn Mandrell, Cindy Scruggs, Tim Rush, Melonie Bowman, Carmen Rac, Barbara Blankenship & Family, Uncle Rufus, Ronnie Mowell, Kalista Graves, the Macon County High School Interact Club, and performances by “Cousin Minnie” and “George & Tammy.”
In addition to an evening of entertainment, Mrs. Hillbilly Cindy Scruggs, will be hosting a silent auction and guests can place their bids throughout the night. Winners will be named after the show.
Admission to the event is $6, and tickets can be purchased when doors open at 5 p.m. or in advance at the Citizens Bank Scottsville Rd. Branch. Those planning to attend are urged to purchase their tickets in advance to ensure their seats.
A refreshment stand, featuring homemade baked goods such as fried pies, BBQ, hotdogs, chips and drinks will also be open during the show.
“This event caters to all age groups,” said Committee member Pat Bailey. “All of the entertainment is family friendly and very entertaining. One of my favorite things about the show is that all of the entertainers are local people who are sharing their talents on stage. We definitely want to thank all of the entertainers for sharing their talents and time with us. I would also like to thank each of the sponsors who have so generously supported our show each year.”
The annual Variety Show is the largest fundraiser hosted by the Lioness Lions Club all year, largely due to show participants, who never cease to entertain the crowd of nearly 600.
“We hope to have another full house this year,” Bailey remarked. “You definitely don’t want to miss out on seeing this year’s acts!”
All proceeds from the show will go directly towards the Lioness Lions Club’s service to the vision and hearing impaired. Funds from the event will enable the club to provide diagnosis and eye surgery, glasses and hearing aids and contributions to Vanderbilt Children’s Eye Center and the Tennessee School for the Blind.
The 25 members of this club work hard all year to raise funds through service projects for sight and hearing. Through those service projects, such as the Variety Show, the club has purchased numerous pairs of glasses and hearing aids, held Valentine’s Day and Halloween parties for a local nursing home, donated $4,000 to the Lions’ White Cane Program, given two $500 scholarships, assisted with the local schools’ Back Pack Program, donated to Santa for All Seasons, donated to the Middle Tennessee Sight Service, collected eye glasses and hearing aids to be recycled and collected cell phones to be refurbished.
The motto of the International Lions Club is “We Serve” and the Lafayette Lioness Lions Club does just that for the people of Macon County – so show your support and come out to enjoy a night of excitement and good, clean, family fun!
