The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldog softball team got to play their season opener last Tuesday night and they lost to the Clay County Bulldogs by a final score of 13-10.

With the cold weather playing a major role in this slugfest, the Lady Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the first inning. Clay County had scored 2 runs in the top half of the first to take a 2-0 lead but the Lady Bulldogs got a double from Connor Murphy to lead off the first inning followed by a single by MaCkenzie Sadler and Kalish Lynch hit a double to score both runners followed by a fielder’s choice allowing Lynch to score to give the Lady Bulldogs a 3-2 lead after one inning of play.

Clay County came back in the top of the third to score 3 runs to take a lead into the bottom of the inning 5-3. The Lady Bulldogs fought back to score 2 runs. Sadler singled and scored on a ringing double by Kalish Lynch and Lynch scored on a single by Shannon Jones to tie the game at 5 all. With the game still tied in the bottom of the 4th inning Hannah Smith leads off with a double followed by a single by Murphy to put runners on 1st and 3rd while Sadler bunted for a base hit to load the bases. Lynch singles scoring Smith, while Taylor Coffelt grounds into a fielder’s choice to make the score 7-5 Bulldogs. Shannon Jones singles scoring Lynch and Coffelt to make the score 9-5 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.

Clay County was in no mood to quit and go home as they scored 5 runs in the top of the 5th inning to take a 10-9 lead into the home half of the inning. There was no more scoring until the top of the 7th inning as Clay County scored 3 more runs to take a lead of 13-9 into the last at bat for the Lady Bulldogs. RBS tried to rally in the bottom of the 7th inning by scoring 1 run and bringing the tying run to bat but Coffelt grounded out to end the ball game and Clay County takes home a 13-10 win.
