Flames Destroy Duplex on Thursday Morning

The Lafayette Fire Department was alerted at 6:15 a.m., Thursday morning, March 21, that a duplex owned by Kenneth Hollis was on fire at 144 Double Wide Lane.

Don Stevens, who was in charge of the scene, stated that Sharon Jimenez occupied the apartment on the right side of the one story structure, however she wasn’t at home.

“The origin of the fire is unknown,” said Stevens. “Both apartments were destroyed inside.”

There were 15 members of the department at the fire site and three on standby. The firefighters were on the scene until 8:45 a.m. when they returned to the station.

Those responding to the fire were the Lafayette Fire Department, Macon County EMS, Macon County Sheriffs Office and the Macon County Chronicle.
