Couple Busted for Growing Marijuana in Basement

According to Macon County Detective Darrell Taylor, he, Sergeant Ron Smith and Sergeant Micheal Veatch arrived at the couple’s Red Boiling Springs residence, located at 2220 Willette Road, to follow-up on a tip received earlier that day that there were drugs in the home.

“When we got to the door, there was a strong odor of marijuana,” Detective Taylor stated. “We got permission from the homeowner to enter the residence, and we were given consent to search the property.”

During their search, officers discovered an elaborate grow operation in the basement consisting of grow lights, watering systems, grow tents, humidifiers, fertilizer, pruners, 53 seedling plants and 36 adult plants. Other drug paraphernalia was also found in the basement including rolling papers and a pipe.

Kent and Jennifer Bolton were arrested and charged with manufacturing of marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They are each being held at the Macon County Jail on $20,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on April 24, 2013.

Kent Bolton’s child, a minor, was also a resident in the home. The Department of Children’s Services was called to the scene to take care of the child.
