Suspicious Fire on New Harmony Rd.

When firefighters arrived at the home of Kathy Tucker, there was smoke coming from the back of the double wide mobile home and they sprang into action. They geared up for an inside attack with other members waiting at the back door in case the crew that went in needed rescue or back up.

According to the Macon County Sheriffs Office, they had responded to various calls at this location in recent weeks.

Ten firemen went to the scene, along with Engine 2, Tanker 22, and Truck 5. After the fire was under control, they checked for hot spots, and then went back to the bedroom with the most damage and continued to wet a pile of smoldering clothes.

The fire is still under investigation and Chief Keith Scruggs said, “At this point, all I will say is that this fire is definitely of suspicious origin.”

First responders were the Macon County Sheriffs Office, Lafayette Fire Department, Macon County EMS, and the Macon County Chronicle.
