Fatal Wreck on Union Camp Road

A Macon County man died in a violent truck wreck on Union Camp Road, late Monday afternoon, May 6, after he was ejected from his truck.

 Joey Russell, age 45, of Lafayette, was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup west on the Union Camp Road, when he lost control and ran off the right side of the roadway. “He went airborne, overturned and was ejected from the vehicle,” said Tennessee Highway Patrolman Terry Seay. “His truck landed in a residential lawn.”

Russell was carried to Macon County General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after they attempted to resuscitate him.

Trooper Seay was the investigating officer and he was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Ashley Mercer and the Macon County Sheriffs Office.

First responders included the Macon County EMS, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County Sheriffs Office and the Macon County Chronicle.
