Macon County Junior High Soccer Finishes Season

alt

The Macon County Jr. High Boys Soccer Team has had a historic season.

The team finished the regular season as the undefeated champions. They also competed in the Middle Tennessee Soccer Conference Tournament last week.

The Tigers advanced through the tournament to the championship game against West Wilson Middle School. The championship game was everything that people expect to see at highest level of competition. West Wilson struck the net first and second making the score 0-2 in the first fifteen minutes. However, the Tigers did not back down and fought hard to even the score before halftime on a goal by Connor Chaparro followed by a penalty kick awarded for a hand ball in the goal area by West Wilson. Chance Presley stepped to the penalty mark with a chance to tie the game. He performed perfectly. The ball sank in the lower right corner of the goal for the equalizer.

It was fifteen minutes into the second half before the Tigers found the back of the net once more for the lead. A deep throw-in by Michael Ashburn toward the goal area of West Wilson found its mark when Jesse Overstreet made a great hustle play and headed the ball in the goal. Macon County maintained that lead on the efforts of a great defense bolstered by Kendrick Carter, Marshall Avera, Jordan Amos, Cayden Shrum, Brandon Lau, and goal keeper Joseph Medrano.

The final score was Macon County 3 West Wilson 2. The comeback was something special that only a team with heart, talent, and wits could accomplish. This has truly been a spectacular season that ended in two championships and many memories for this team.
