Macon Women Finish 16th at State Track Meet

The Macon County High School women had a strong showing at the 2013 Blue Cross Spring Fling State Track Meet.

Four different girls were competing in four different events, with one girl competing in three of the four.

The first competitor was Logan Hernandez in the 3200m (2 mile) on Wednesday May 22nd. This was the first appearance for the sophomore in the state finals. Logan finished in 6th place with a time of 12:48.05.

On Thursday, May 23rd the remaining events for the A-AA state meet were finished. In the 800m, Senior Katie Hix finished in 6th place with a time of 2:28.63, only .38 out of 4th place. Katie also ran in the 1600m (1 mile) event and finished in 3rd with a time of 5:20.64. Macon sent a team of runners to compete in the 4×800 for the second consecutive year. Junior Katie Swindle, Hernandez, Hix, and Junior Jasmine Chaparro finished in 6th place with a time of 10:38.51. As mentioned last week, this team broke an 18 year Macon school record in this relay race in the sectional finals.

As a team Macon County finished in 16th place out of 44 High Schools. Coach Gattis was pleased with the effort of this team. “We have had a good year and I want to thank all the members of the team this year and their parents.”
