Relay For Life Nets Over $47,000

alt

The Macon County Relay For Life event moved ahead last Friday night, June 7, despite the on and off rain showers.

There was a short delay, but folks who came out to relay for the American Cancer Society were there to stay and the 2013 campaign raised over $47,000.

A celebration walk was held for the survivors and luminaria’s lined the walking track after dark. Fourteen teams gathered at the park to take turns walking laps around the track with each team trying to keep at least one member involved at all times. The American Cancer Society’s goal is to create a world where more people survive this disease.

This year’s teams, who set up campsites, were: Walmart, Walgreens, Citizens Bank, Macon Bank & Trust, NCTC, Measure Up, Macon County General Hospital, Hillwood Helpers, MCHS Interact Club, Nestle Waters, Dodson Farms, Holy Family Catholic Church, Cobb Vantress and Tamar Coley & Friends.

The talent was wonderful this year and the Relay Committee would like to thank the Shoo B Doos for the tremendous job they did entertaining the crowd. We would like to especially thank Terri Merryman for participating in the 2013 event and also all the sponsors for their donations.

Several things were available during the night including plenty to eat and a dunking machine.

The best campsite award went to Dodson’s Farms; most luminaria’s sold, Citizens Bank; most money raised, Walmart; Spirit Award, Measure Up; and Midnight Special, MCHS Interact Club.

To the people who attended and the survivor’s who walked, I can’t thank you enough for joining us. This Night Was For You!!!!
