The Hartsville Revitalization Commission is hosting the 8th Annual Goose Gala at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Ray Miller, located at 1930 Herod Lane on Saturday, September 21, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The gala is a fundraiser to help revitalize downtown Hartsville and over the last seven years the organization has raised and spent $122,000 on the courthouse and now they are ready to move on to other projects.

“We’ve got the courthouse in good shape and our next project is to develop the area around Goose Creek, which runs through downtown Hartsville,” said Dr. Miller. “We just want to dress everything up and bring folks back downtown.”

The tickets are $50 and Dr. Miller’s beautiful home sets on the Cumberland River where Goose Creek runs into the river. “What you get for a ticket is valet parking, there is a cocktail hour from 6:00 p.m. till 7:00, meal from 7:00 till 8:00 p.m.,” continued the retired doctor. “There is also a silent auction and Southern Image Band, from Lafayette, will play from 8:00 till 11:00 p.m.”

The revitalization group sprang up from the Hartsville Chamber of Commerce. “It originally involved me, Betty Sue Hibdon, Tommy Thompson and Dixie Taylor Huff, who was hugely instrumental in organizing the event. Dixie knew how to do this and the rest of us didn’t have a club,” he laughed. “But sadly we have lost Dixie and Trousdale County mourned the death of our dear friend.”

Dr. Miller said that before Dixie died she was honored at the Goose Gala. According to the doctor her daughters are still involved and furnish the tents and valet parking.

“We try to have the gala sponsored with all our expenses fully covered before the event and then the ticket sales and the silent auction is clear,” added Dr. Miller. “We have a great silent auction with many good bargains.”

Miller says there are several people from Lafayette who always attend. “Judge John Wootten and his wife always attend.”

The dress code is anything you want. If you want to dress up or just come casual, anyway is fine. “If you buy a ticket we don’t care what you wear,” the doctor laughed again.

“We would like to invite everyone to come to the Goose Gala and we guarantee you will get your money’s worth. This year we have one of the best bands in the area and remember when you get ready to leave the valet will bring your car around!”

Tickets are on sale at Hartsville Pharmacy, either bank in Hartsville, Macon County Chronicle and also Keith Ballou has them at Macon Bank and Trust in Lafayette.

“It will be a real nice night and we would love to see you there.”
