MCHS Girl’s Soccer Opens Season
The Macon County Tigerettes Soccer Team opened up their regular season last Thursday against the Jackson County Blue Devils.
The Tigerettes went straight to work on the Blue Devils and won the match 7-0. Goals were scored by Morgan McDonald, Bailey King, Jacy Russell, Savannah Heflin, Taylor Cox, and Tori King. The Tigerettes defense led by defensive backs Emilie Harris, Brittany McClard, and Karry Day helped keep pressure off our Goal Keepers ,Casey Martin and Angel Austin, who held Jackson County scoreless.
The team traveled to York Institute on Monday night for their first district match up against the Dragons.
The game began on a good note with Alexus Sarmiento finding the back of the net from ball played in by a corner kick within the first five minutes. As the game progressed the Tigerettes defense faltered and allowed a quick goal for York to equalize the score. The Dragons were quick to find the net again going up 2-1 at halftime. The Tigerettes took back control of the game for the first 15 minutes of the second half and had several opportunities to tie the score. Unfortunately, none of our forwards could finish and pick up a score. York was able to use some speed and some well placed long kicks on an extremely short field to beat our defense and score 3 more goals making the score 5-1. Bailey King was finally able to score for the Tigerettes again late in the game, but the outcome was already settled. York went on to win 5-2 gaining a much coveted district win. The Tigerettes now 1-1 (0-1 in district play) will travel to Mt. Juliet High School Thursday night. We are a young team that makes a lot of mistakes, but we have potential to be better and compete if the girls are willing to go to work.
