My View from the Press Box – MCHS vs. Westmoreland

The Tigers lose to the Eagles 29-12 last Friday night in Westmoreland. The loss brings the Tigers to 0-2 for the season.
The Eagles scored on the 3rd play of the game when Logan Grace was intercepted by Jay Wright who took it 37 yards for a TD. Holmes added the PAT, Eagles led 7-0. With 8:30 to go in the 2nd qtr, Dylan Todd scored on a 38 yd TD run and Holmes PAT was good. 14-0 Eagles. The Eagles opened the 2nd half with a 12 play 80 yard drive that took 5:32 off the clock and ended with a 1 yd TD run by Patrick French. Holmes added the PAT, Eagles led 21-0. With 7:43 left in the 4th KJ Kitchens capped off a 7 play 80 yard drive with a 4 yard TD run. The PAT was no good, 21-6 Eagles. French scored again on a 5 yd TD run with 2:25 left in the game. Graves passed to Ward for the 2pt play, Eagles led 29-6. The Tigers scored with 9 seconds remaining when Grace hit Dalton Driver for a 13 yard TD pass, the PAT failed. The Eagles ran out the clock to end the game.

Kitchens led the Defense with 11 Tackles, Shawn Reagan 6, Driver and Hafeli 5 each, Swindle 4, Carlisle/Stephen Reagan/Lowhorn/Wilson 3 tackles each, Madina and Graves 2, Crawford and Partin 1 each.
Coach Wilson said after the game “I’m proud of the effort we put forth tonight but we still made too many mistakes, which will happen with a young team. The mistakes are coachable and we will get work on correcting them. I did see a lot of positives tonight that we can build on for next week.”
The Tigers will take on York Institute this Friday night for their first district match up. The game is scheduled to be in Jamestown; however the game may be moved to Tennessee Tech due to stadium issues. Coach Wilson said he would keep everyone posted of where the game will be played.
