My View from the Press Box – MCHS vs. York Institute
The Tigers got their first win of the season with a shutout over the Dragons of York Institute, 23-0. Coach Nathan Wilson earns the first win of his High School coaching career.
On the first play of the 2nd qtr, K.J. Kitchens scored on a 1yd TD run ending a 16 play 75 yard drive that ate up 7:46 off the clock, the PAT was no good. 6-0 Tigers. With 4:12 to go in the 2nd period, Logan Grace had a 4 yard TD run to end a 12 play 55 yard drive that consumed another 5:51 off the clock. Mason Doss added the PAT giving the Tiger a 13-0 lead at halftime. Midway through the 3rd qtr, Dalton Driver scored on a 33yd “pick six” and Doss added the PAT giving the Tigers a 20-0 lead. With just over 2 minutes left in the game, Doss hit a 40yd FG to give the Tigers the 23-0 win.
Passing: Grace 5/7 26yds. Receiving: Crawford 2/6yds, Driver 1/17yds, Noles 1/4yds, Kitchens 1/-1. Rushing: Kitchens 21/86yds/TD, Driver 20/86yds, Grace 8/6yds, Carlisle 5/15yds, Harris1/3yds, Lowhorn 1/1yd. Dalton Driver led the defense with 7 tackles, Lowhorn, Harris, Graves and Shawn Reagan had 4 tackles each. Kitchens and Raney had 3 tackles each. Stephen Reagan 2 tackles Carlisle, Partin, Swindle, Crawford and Hafeli recorded 1 tackle each.
Coach Wilson Said after the game “I’m so proud of the hard work the players and coaches have put in so far. My son told me after the win ‘Dad, I understand now why you work so late every night.’ That’s what it’s gonna take from everybody on this team to build a championship program. We’re gonna enjoy and celebrate this one tonight and start getting ready for Livingston in 2 weeks.
The Tigers have this week off to heal up and get ready to host the Livingston Wildcats on Sept. 20th at Pat Parker Field. Come out and support the Tigers and “I’ll see you at the game.”
