MCHS Girl’s Golf Places 2nd in State

The ladies from MCHS finish runners-up for the second year in a row at the TSSAA A/AA State Golf Tournament.

Larken Whittemore competed as an individual and finished 12th in the boy’s state competition.

The Tigerettes traveled to Willowbrook Golf Course in Manchester, TN for the two day event. In girl’s competition, three golfers play and they take the best two scores. Seniors Kaitlin Cartwright shot a 155 (79-76), Savannah Knight a 169 (83-85), and Lauren Gammons a 170 (85-85). Following the first day MCHS trailed eventual winner Sullivan South by six strokes and Milan by one. Sullivan took the title with a score of 315, Macon second with 323, and Milan third with 327. Cartwright finished as the third low medalist of the competition.

“I am so proud of these girls, they have worked together for a long time,” said MCHS Coach Beverly Shoulders. “We are so thankful to have great support from parents, the golf course and its members, our school, and the community.”

MCHS Junior Larken Whittemore finished as the 12th low medalist. Following an opening day score of 76, he came back to shoot even par 72 for a 148 finish. Grayson Davis of CPA won in a playoff over Dawson Armstrong of Lipscomb after shooting a 139.
