LADY BULLDOGS WIN OVER MERROL HYDE 65-44 BOYS LOSE 40-39

alt

Homecoming night is a very special night in High School Basketball.

Most of the time the home team usually wins and the Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs kept that tradition going as they streaked past the Lady Hawks from Merrol Hyde High School by a final score of 65-44.

The Lady Bulldogs came out shooting the 3 pointer and thanks to Hannah Smith the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-8 first quarter lead. Smith knocked down 3 of those 3 pointers plus she had a layup to get the Lady Bulldogs off to a big lead that never was threatened.

Lady Hawks post player Anna Lewis scored the first 17 points for her team but the Lady Bulldogs got a balanced scoring attack not only from Smith but Mayson Burgener had 10 first half points plus Kelsey Jenkins hit a nice 3 point shot and the Lady Bulldogs had a halftime lead of 32-23.

Lady Bulldog Coach Larry White went to his bench early in this game and those girls responded with great defense. McKinzie Hix had 2 points as did Cayley Tuck. Kaitlyn McCarter had 4 points off the bench. In somewhat of an oddity, the Lady Bulldogs scored 32 points in the first half and 33 for the second half.

Burgener led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 27 points with 17 of those coming in the second half the game. Hannah Smith finished with 14 points and she really picked up on her defensive effort.

The Lady Bulldogs had 9 steals and only 6 turnovers for the game. Final scoring stats-Kelsey Jenkins finished with 6 points-Hix-6 points-Tuck-2 points as did Abby Tuck and Shaylee Ellingson.Ashlyn Murphy finished with 1 free throw.

The Bulldogs played great defense the first half but the offense was stagnant and shot selection could have been better. The Bulldogs trailed at the break 23-15 but they still were in this game and they proved it the second half. The Bulldogs did not have a 2 point basket in this game until 2 plus minutes had gone by in the second quarter. All of their points had been 3 pointers by Chance Asberry with 2 of those plus Skylar Holden with 1 as did Zane Roberts.

The Bulldogs got their game going in the second half by playing great defense and making their free throws. By the end of the third quarter the ball game is all tied up 31-31 each. The Bulldogs finally got the lead at the 3 minute mark but the Hawks came back to score the next 5 points and won the game by making their free throws down the stretch. A one point loss is just that but the Bulldogs are starting to play better basketball and this game was just a start. Scoring totals-Brince Crouch-8 points-Nick Deckard-6 points-Zane Roberts-6 pointsDallas Greanead-4 points-Skylar Holden-9 points-Chance Asberry-6 points.
