Over $10,000 in Stolen Property Recovered

According to Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons, his department has been investigating numerous thefts across the county for several months and Mr. McMurtry was established as a suspect.

On Thursday, October 16, McMurtry was apprehended in the north part of the county at which time a search of his vehicle was conducted. Numerous stolen items were recovered inside the vehicle, and McMurtry was transported to the Macon County Jail.

The following day, detectives conducted a search at a Macon County residence where McMurtry had allegedly been storing additional stolen items. A variety of stolen goods were recovered there as well.

The case is currently still under investigation and the Macon County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to recover stolen property.

As of press time, over 1,000 stolen items have been recovered with a combined value of over $10,000.

Items recovered include a riding lawn mower, power tools, hand tools, lawn equipment, etc. 

Sheriff Gammons would like to thank all of the deputies, detectives and correction officers involved in the case as well as the Lafayette Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

 Officers are now in the process of contacting the many victims in this case in an effort to return their stolen items.
