Local Junior High Basketball Teams Meet
The first meeting of the basketball season between local junior high teams occurred this Monday night in Lafayette.
Macon County Junior High would host Red Boiling Springs Junior High.
In the girl’s game the Tigerettes jumped out to an early lead. Keeley Carter’s 7 points in the period staked her team to a 13-0 margin after the opening quarter. Lady Bulldog Kennedy Fleming would get her team on the board scoring 5 points in the 2nd quarter. Allison Shoulders would score all 10 of her points in the 2nd period and Macon led 35-7 at the half. Both teams would play a lot of players in the second half, but the Tigerettes proved too much for the Lady Bulldogs. Final score Macon Junior High 63 Red Boiling Springs 14.
Scoring for Macon was: Jamie Ashburn 4, Morgan Carter 4, Keeley Carter 10, Mara King 6, McKaylee Mix 3, Allison Shoulders 10, Abby Shoulders 6, Landra Stafford 4, Savannah Colvin 6, Jaylin Gregory 2, Olivia Belton 4, and Chloe Donoho 2. Emily Ashburn played but did not score.
Scoring for RBS was: Kennedy Fleming 8, Hayley McCarter 1, and Elizabeth Anderson 5. Hailey Davis, Briley Morgan, Kailey Holland, McKenli Sadler, Emma Rainey, Summer Stafford, Iesha Smith, and Madison Pippin all played but did not score.
The boy’s game was an enjoyable game to watch. Macon jumped out to a 13-7 lead after one with balanced scoring from four of their five starters. Bulldog Matthew Murphy kept his team close hitting two big three pointers in the second and at the half the Tigers led 23-16. Macon would run the lead out to 14 but the Bulldogs kept up the pressure and cut it to 40-30 after the 3rd period. The Bulldogs forced some Macon turnovers and cut the lead to 6 with only 4 minutes to play. However the Tigers would make the shots they needed to secure the win. Final score in a good game for both teams, Macon 48 RBS 36.
Scoring for Macon was: Cameron Welch 5, Clay West 10, Trent Cook 19, Kelton Ballou 8, and Kade Allen 6. Eli Borders and Dalton Marsh would play but did not score.
Scoring for RBS was: Hunker Kirk 6, Dalton Thompson 9, Matthew Murphy 14, Mason Hix 4, and Kendall Thompson 3. Malachai Wilson would play but did not score.
