Brutal Wreck on Highway 52
According to wreck investigator THP Trooper Donoho, 49-year-old Donald Church Jr., of Lafayette, who was driving a 2006 Chevy Tahoe, was setting at the stop sign at North Lambert Lane where it comes out on Highway 52 West. 48-year-old Kimberly Rhodes, of Lafayette, was a passenger.
“Kenneth Goad, of Pleasant Shade, was hauling cows in a westbound tractor trailer on Highway 52 West,” said Trooper Donoho. “When he came upon North Lambert Lane the Tahoe pulled out in front of the tractor trailer causing the collision. The Tahoe spun around in the road and came to rest partially in the west bound lane and part in the emergency shoulder.”
Trooper Donoho says that the tractor trailer traveled off the shoulder of the roadway and came to rest after it had tipped over on its side. “Eight cows escaped and 18 were killed,” said Trooper Donoho.
Donald Church was carried by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt Hospital, where he remained on Monday in stable condition. Kimberly Rhodes was transported to Sumner Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Vanderbilt Hospital. She has since been released.
Those responding to the scene were the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County Sheriffs Office, Macon County EMS, Lafayette Fire Department, Macon County Rescue Squad, West Macon Rescue Squad, and the Macon County Chronicle.
