Bulldogs Host 7A Rival Goodpasture

01-13rbsbb

Goodpasture High School made their annual visit to the Dog Pound for a district 7A contest with Red Boiling Springs and the Lady Cougars lost to the Lady Bulldogs 52-23.

The RBS Boys played a great game but ran out of steam in the 4th quarter losing 48-37.

The Lady Bulldogs played one of their best games of the season jumping all over the Lady Cougars and led at halftime 27-15. The Lady Cougars never recovered and with this loss they are tied with Trousdale County for last place in the district.

The Lady Bulldogs got 12 first half points from McKenzie Hix and Hannah Smith chipped in with 8 points as the Lady Cougars defense had no answers for the hot shooting Lady Bulldogs. RBS shot 65 percent in the first half including 3 baskets from 3-point range. The Lady Bulldogs never let up in this game and the hustle was there for the entire way. The Lady Bulldogs led 43-21 after 3 quarters of play as their hot shooting touch continued. The Lady Cougars played hard but this night was all Lady Bulldogs.

Hannah Smith finished with a season high 18 points with Hix totaled 16 points. The Lady Bulldogs finished with a rebound total of 29 and the Lady Cougars had only 12. The Lady Bulldogs had a season low 8 turnovers for the game. Scoring totals for the Lady Bulldogs-Smith-18-Hix-16-McCarter-9-and Cayley finished with 8 points and 11 rebounds.

The boys game was like a lot of other games this year as the Bulldogs fall behind early and then spend so much energy trying to catch up that they have nothing left at the end. The Bulldogs played well the first half but found themselves behind 28-18 at the break. The Cougars defense was much in your face and it gave the Bulldogs trouble all night.

The Bulldogs Brince Crouch scored 8 points in the third quarter while Alex Mullinex and Zane Roberts scored 8 points between them to get the Bulldogs within striking distance trailing by only 5 points going into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs managed only 3 points in the last quarter and lost by a final score of 48-37. Bulldog scoring for the game-Crouch-13 points-Chance Asberry-11 points-Mullinex-7 points and Roberts finished with 6 points.

Red Boiling Springs will travel to Clay County on Jan 9th to take on the Bulldogs in what used to be a district game but these 2 teams are in different districts.  That won’t matter as they will battle each other like it was a few years ago.
