Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs Claim District Win
Red Boiling Springs traveled to Trousdale County to take on the Yellow Jackets for an 8A contest.
Both schools are trying to gain momentum heading into the post season.
The final score was the largest lead of the night for the Bulldogs as this game had 9 lead changes and with 3 minutes left in the game the Bulldogs lead was 2 points. However, the Bulldogs refused to let this chance slip away. This game was right there for the Yellow Jackets to win but turnovers and shots that they usually make did not fall the final 3 minutes for the Jackets.
The Bulldogs came out early and established the inside game with Bulldog Senior Brince Crouch scoring 6 first quarter points plus Senior point guard Nick Deckard and Michael Tirjan each had a basket and Chance Asberry made a long 3 point shot and the Bulldogs took a lead of 13-9 going into the second quarter. Not much scoring in the second quarter as the Bulldogs lead is cut to 20-18 at halftime. Braison Raney was scored 8 first half points for the Jackets and Raney and was the big gun for the home team as he led all scorers with 24 points and the odd part was he never attempted a free throw the entire game.
The Bulldogs came out for the second half with shots falling from all over the court plus the Jackets had no answer for Brince Crouch who had 14 second half points and Senior Point guard Zane Roberts made 2 long 3 pointers and Asberry found the range for 9 of his total of 15 points for the game and Deckard made 6 points of his 8 total points and the Bulldogs took a 40-30 lead to the fourth quarter.
Some fans may have thought this game was over but not the Jackets kids as they came back to cut the lead down to 2 points behind Rainey who simply could not miss and Rainey got some help from Austin Ford who finished with 11 points and Rickey Harrison who scored 5 points of his total of 8 for the game.Late in the game when the Jackets had to foul was a big difference in this game as the Jackets had 5 made free throws for the game and the Bulldogs had a total of 11 points from the charity stripe.
The Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs have suffered more than their share of close losses this year but the right combination of playing hard for four quarters and still have enough gas in the tank for the last 2 minutes made the difference last Tuesday night as the Bulldogs went on the road to claim a hard fought district victory over the Trousdale County Yellow Jackets by a final score of 57-48.
This was Senior night for Trousdale County and Josh Jackson and Dustin Stovall finished their careers at home before a very large crowd. As for the Bulldogs they have a big district game this Friday night at Gordonsville and then the district tournament starts next week.
The girls game was expected to be close and for 3 plus quarters no more than 5 points seperated both teams. The Lady Jackets defense of a match-up zone that was designed to keep the Lady Bulldogs from going inside to Cayley Tuck and McKenzie Hix worked very well but the Lady Bulldogs got outside scoring from Kaitlyn McCarter who finished with 20 points including 4 shots made from 3 point range.
The Lady Jackets also found the mark from long range with Ashley Cornwell knocking down 5 from 3 point range and most of them from way beyond the 3 point line. Hannah Gregory also found her range from the 3 point line scoring 9 of her game total of 16 points.
The Lady Bulldogs led after the first quarter by a 12-10 score but the Lady Jackets played well and the Lady Bulldog lead was still 2 points at halftime 23-21.The Lady Bulldog scoring in the first half came from McCarter with 10 points. The Lady Jackets won this game from the free throw line making 11 free throws in the fourth quarter plus Gregory nailed 2 of her long range 3 pointers. Destine Dixon and McKenzie Dixon both had 3 points in the game for the Lady Jackets.Jamey McKoin had 2 points.
