TSSAA Suggests Resolution for 8AA

alt

With all of the bad weather that our area has had this past week, district 8AA has been in limbo to conclude its postseason basketball tournaments.

This week the TSSAA gave the schools in the district some options.

The championship and consolation games for the boys and girls were scheduled to be played last Tuesday and Wednesday night. With all the snow and ice that hit right in the heart of district 8AA those games were unable to be played. Four teams from the boys and girls sides needed to be seeded in order to continue region play in the post-season.

The TSSAA Board of Control held a conference call on Friday, January 20, 2015, to discuss how schools should proceed in order to finish their Division I District Basketball Tournaments.  After much discussion, the Board voted to give each individual District the opportunity to see if they could complete their tournament by Saturday, February 21st.  If the games cannot be played on Friday or Saturday due to inclement weather, the Board voted to give each District the following options: Option #1 If the District is down to their Championship and Consolation games, the seeding for the Regional tournament will be seeded according to their finish in regular season play and District seeding. Option #2 TSSAA is not encouraging any Districts to play tournament games on Sunday.  This decision is, however, being left to the discretion of the teams remaining in that district. The schools involved in 8AA decided to choose the first option.

Macon County is scheduled to play at Chattanooga Notre-Dame on Tuesday February 24th at 7 pm. If all four of the 8AA teams were to win the play-in games the remaining region games would be moved back to Cookeville High School. If any 7AA teams win the Region games will be played at Bledsoe County.
