RBS Baseball Opens Season

The RBS Bulldogs opened their district play this week.

The first home-and-away series was against on old foe in Trousdale County.

The Bulldogs hosted the Yellow Jackets on Monday the 16th. Trousdale grabbed an early 1-0 lead after two innings before RBS could tie the game in the top of the 3rd. However, the Yellow Jackets would retake the lead and plate two in the 4th and three in the 5th. Red Boiling Springs would add two runs late but the Yellow Jackets cruised to a comfortable win by a final score of 8-4.

Brince Crouch got the start and the loss, going 3 1/3 innings before Cole Dziekiewicz came on in relief. Both pitchers combined to give up only 5 hits and 7 earned runs. Chance Asberry went 2 for 2 in four at-bats, scoring two runs. Cameron Cothron scored the other two runs while Nick Deckard is credited with 3 RBIs in the game.

The Bulldogs played the return game on Tuesday the 17th in Hartsville. In what appeared to be a pitchers battle early, RBS jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 4 ½ innings before Trousdale tied the game in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Yellow Jackets would get the win in the bottom of the 7th and final inning to get the win by a final score of 6-5.

Chance Asberry pitched 4 1/3 innings and Nicholas Deckard pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a combined 5 runs on 10 hits. Bailey Anderson pitched 2 innings and take the loss giving up one run on two hits.

Deckard went 3 for 4 in the game with 2RBIs and Dziekiewicz went 3 for 4 as well. Asberry, Crouch, Cameron Cothron, Skyler Holden, and Dziekiewicz scored the five Bulldog runs. Both teams combined for 22 hits with 10 of the 11 runs scored in the last three innings.

The Bulldogs host 8A opponent Goodpasture on the 23rd and travel to face the Cougars on the 24th. They will play against Van Buren County at home on the 26th and play in a double header against Community on the 28th of March.
