Lady Bulldogs Shock Goodpasture

alt

Not very many Lady Bulldog Softball fans thought their school had much of a chance of beating Goodpasture.

However that is just what the Lady Bulldogs did last week in a very exciting game by overcoming a 3-2 deficit in the top of the seventh inning to claim their very first win ever over the Lady Cougars from Goodpasture.

The Lady Bulldogs came into the Goodpasture game having won a play day tournament at Clay County. They won consecutive games over the Jackson County Lady Blue Devils, the Clay County Lady Bulldogs, and the Monterey Lady Wildcats

The Lady Bulldogs scored their first run of the game over the Goodpasture on back to back doubles by Traci Knight and Sydney West and the Lady Cougar lead was cut to 3-1. The Lady Bulldogs scored their second run in the fifth inning as Bailey Tucker scored on a bases loaded walk and now the Lady Bulldogs trailed only 3-2 going into the top of the seventh and the last chance for the Lady Bulldogs.

With one out the Lady Bulldogs got back to back hits by Shaylee Ellingson and Taylor Cothron to put the tying and lead runners on base with one out. Lady Bulldog Traci Knight ran the count to two balls and one strike and on the next pitch Knight sent a shot all the way to the fence and both Ellingson and Cothron scored while Knight stood at third base with a stand up triple and the Lady Bulldogs had themselves a 4-3 lead. The Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Cougars scoreless in the home half of the seventh to claim their very first victory over state power Goodpasture.

Could the Lady Bulldogs be headed back to the glory days when David and Cindy Porter put this program on the map by winning six district championships out of seven years? A lot of Lady Bulldog fans sure hope they are.

The Districts Tournaments have now started and we will have those reports as they are played and hope the weather stays good.
