Junior Tigers Lose to Smith County
The Macon County Junior High Tigers lose a defensive battle to the Smith County Owls.
The game went to the 4th quarter before the Owls scored the go ahead touchdown.
In a game where offense and possession was at a premium, the Owls got on the scoreboard first. With 3:18 left in the 1st Smith scored on a 12 yard run but failed in the conversion and led 6-0. Macon only had two offensive possessions in the first half and trailed 0-6 after two quarters.
The Tigers came back on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter and scored. Isaac Belton ran it in from one yard but the conversion failed. In a drive that saw the Tigers convert on two 4th down plays, they tie the game 6-6 with 1:54 left in the 3rd. Smith County would march down the field and score the final touchdown with 1:43 left in the game. Macon would get one more chance but turned the ball over. Final score Macon 6 Smith County 12.
Ethan Jenkins went 0 for 3 passing and led all rushers with 18 carries for just 87 yards. Belton had 8 carries for 15 yards and one score. Logan Whittemore led all Macon tacklers with 9 stops. It was 8th grade night and we wish these young men the best of luck as they move on to high school.
MCJHS will travel to the Creekbank for their final regular season ballgame. They will play Jim B. Satterfield Middle on September 22nd with kick-off scheduled for 6:30 pm.
