Monterey Defeats Red Boiling Springs
The Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs drop a region game against the Monterey Wildcats.
The game was held on Thursday September 17th at Tennessee Tech due to the work on the football facilities at Monterey.
Monterey is a Region 5-1A opponent of the Bulldogs that went to the 1A semi-finals in the playoffs last season. Despite the Wildcat 1-3 record they meant business against RBS. The Wildcats quickly jumped out to a 22-0 lead late in the second quarter. However, not giving up, the Bulldogs blocked a punt deep in Wildcat territory. Two plays later Bulldog Lee Pruitte scored on a sweep right and Joey Medrano added the extra point and Monterey led 22-7 at the half.
The Wildcats were determined to salt this game away early in the second half. They came out and scored early but couldn’t put away the Dogs. Early in the 4th quarter Medrano kicked a 31 yard field goal to make it 10-36. After a late Monterey score, Pruitte would add his second TD on a 39 yard run and Medrano would convert. Final score was Monterey 42 RBS 17.
Bulldog Logan Hewitt was 3 of 13 for 14 yards. Lee Pruitte led all rushers with 3 carries for 54 yards and 2 TDs. Jordan Powell caught 2 passes for 14 yards.
The Bulldogs get a week off to rest and recover from the first half of the season. They are scheduled to travel to Jo Byrns on October 2nd with kick-off set for 7 pm.
