alt

The Macon County Tigers got a big Region 5-4A win over the Maplewood Wildcats at home Friday night.

The Tigers put together the most complete game of the season and won 28-7 in a game they dominated from start to finish.

The Tigers got on the board with 7:59 left in the second quarter. Matt Austin ran it in from 17 yards and Ethan Wakefield added the PAT. With good field position and after a Tiger turnover on the Wildcat 12 yard line on the previous possession, junior defensive lineman Tyler Swindle recorded a safety with 1:43 left in the half. Macon led 9-0. After the free kick and an excellent return from Evan Perrigo, Quarterback Seth Carlisle scored on an 18 yard run. PAT failed and Macon was up 15-0 at the half.

Following a defensive stop that saw the Wildcats get negative yards on their opening possession, the Tigers march right down the field. Austin was a man on a mission and got his second score on a 9 yard run. PAT failed and Macon led 21-0. On the next Tiger possession Austin tacked on his 3rd rushing score of the evening with runs of 30, 22, and 6 yards in consecutive plays. Marshall Avera hit the PAT and Macon led 28-0. Maplewood would add a late score and the final was Macon 28 Maplewood 7.

Seth Carlisle had 151 yards rushing and 1 TD on 17 carries and hit 2 of 8 for 38 yards. Austin had a huge night with 169 yards on 21 carries and 3 TDs. AJ Simpson caught 1 pass for 22 yards which set up the first score. Tyler Swindle led the team in tackles with 10 total, 1 ½ sacks, 4 for a loss. A big feather in the Tiger defense needs to be mentioned as they gave up only 136 yards total in the game and just three 1st downs the entire night.

Macon County will travel to Smithville to take on DeKalb County next Friday night. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
