Head-On Collision Kills One

 The collision occurred near the intersection of Fox Run on Hwy. 52, shortly after 8:00 a.m.

Accident investigator THP Trooper Gerald Carter, stated that Anthony L. Jenkins was traveling east on Highway 52 West in a 2001 red Chevy Impala when he crossed the yellow line and hit a 2013 Freight liner tractor-trailer head on. “The car went off the right side of the roadway and the truck came to rest against a guard rail,” said Trooper Carter.


The truck driver was Thomas N. Cropper, who was driving for Target Transportation out of Gamaliel, Ky. He wasn’t injured.


“Both drivers were wearing their seat belts,” added Trooper Carter. 


 The Lafayette Fire Department and the Macon County Rescue Squad had to extricate the victim from his automobile.


That section of Highway 52 West was closed temporarily and traffic was detoured until the wreckage was cleared.


First responders were the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County Sheriffs Office, Macon County EMS, Macon Count Rescue Squad, Lafayette Fire Department, and the Macon County Chronicle.


Mr. Anthony Jenkins was born in Macon County on July 22, 1959. He was the son of Billie and Maudean Jenkins. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Janice Jenkins; son Joshua (Mary) Smith; brother Ronald (Diane) Reed and was loved by many nieces and nephews.
