Bulldog Baseball Action
Red Boiling Springs had a busy week on the diamond this week.
They played in games against Watertown, Clay County, and Monterey.
The weather forced the cancellation of the game scheduled at Watertown on Apr 11th so the Bulldogs hosted the Tigers for two games on the 12th. The Bulldogs batted thru the lineup in the 1st inning and jumped out to a 3-0 lead but couldn’t hold on as the Tigers plated 5 runs in the 2nd, 5 in the 4th, and 7 in the 6th inning to get a 17-3 victory. Cole Dziekiewicz started the game and pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits, 13 runs (3 earned), and had 10 strike-outs. Kendall Thompson pitched 2/3 of relief and allowed 4 hits, 3 runs (2 earned) and gave up one walk. Bailey Anderson and Matthew Murphy had 2 RBIs each while Cameron Cothron went 2 for 2 and Dziekiewicz went 2 for 3. The Bulldog defense had 7 errors in the game.
In the second game, RBS once again jumped out of the gate and scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning. However Watertown simply made the best of their opportunities and picked up a 11-4 win. Chance Assbery went the distance on the mound pitching 6 innings giving up 11 hits, 11 runs (4 earned), and had 7 strike-outs. Asberry went 2 for 4 while Cothron went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Again the Bulldog defense had two costly errors in the game.
The Bulldogs hosted Clay County on Thursday Apr 14th. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings and had to come from behind to plate two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to grab a 10-9 victory. Bailey Anderson got the start and went 3 2/3 innings giving up 13 hits, 9 runs (3 earned) and had 5 strikeouts. Asberry came on in relief and got the win throwing 3 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and no runs with 4 strikeouts. Dziekiewicz went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs while Justin Bergdorff went 3 for 3 with and RBI and scored 3 runs. Dustin Bergdorff also had 4 RBIs.
On Friday Apr 15th Monterey came to RBS for a game on a day tailor made for baseball. The Bulldogs ran into a buzzsaw and mustered just three hits (2 by Justin Bergdorff and one by Chase Long) and scored only one run (Dustin Bergdorff) enroute to a 12-1 defeat by Monterey. Cameron Cothron got the start and threw 3 innings and gave up 4 hits and 6 runs (5 earned). Asberry tossed 2 innings and gave up 1 earned run on 2 hits and Hatton Allen threw 1 inning and gave up 5 earned runs on 3 hits.
This week the Bulldogs are scheduled to play at Clinton on the 18th, at the TN Heat on the 19th, at Pickett County on the 21st, and at Cumberland County for a double header on the 22nd.
