RBS Folk Medicine Festival, June 4
The festival celebrates the restorative power of nature with local artists and craftspeople, food vendors and entertainment. Several knowledgeable speakers will be featured including Jeff Poppen – the Barefoot Farmer and Ila Hatter – the Lady of the Forest.
Activities will include the Arts and Crafts Market, and the Village at the Log Cabin. The quilt show is back this year and you don’t want to miss the Palace Entertainment Stage, the Village Stage, 1920s Olde-Tyme Photo Booth, the Children’s Zone, Dan Barth Medicine Show, Herb Walk with Juanita Dodson, demonstrations of Folk Life traditions found along Salt Lick Creek and the RBS Street Dance at 5 p.m..
Among the many talents that will be appearing on the Palace Stage will be Melanie Bowman, Servants Quartet, Miles Gibson, Wesley Davis, Tennessee Line Band, Chris Farley.
Appearing on the Village Stage will be Oak Grove Kids, Jack McCall, Clarissa Brawner, Kinship, Joy Williams, J.R. Collins, Canaan Bowman & Greg Hiett, Granny’s Treasures, Jordan Dixon, and Brandon & Benny Woodard.
Vision 20/20 revived the popular Folk Medicine Festival four years ago after a decade absence, to lift the community’s spirit and economy.
According to the organization, the goal of the revived festival is to pass on knowledge, skills, and traditions that ensure the survival of folk activities – from old-time medicine and natural healing arts, to arts and crafts that demonstrate the traditional, handmade way of not only creating art but useful household items. Vision 20/20 also sees the Folk Medicine Festival as an opportunity to encourage creative expression and foster a sense of community.
