Family Home Lost in Fire
The call came in at 5:16 p.m. and upon arrival at the 186 Hilco Drive residence, Assistant Fire Chief Troy Brawner said the one story, wood frame dwelling was heavily involved. “There was flames shooting out of the roof and the smoke could be seen from town,” said Brawner, who was in charge of the scene. “We not only battled the flames but the 90 plus degree temperature as well.”
The Lafayette Fire Department had 15 firefighters at the fire site and they received mutual aid from the Red Boiling Springs Fire & Rescue – man power only. “Chief Bray and 5 other firefighters responded to assist us,” said Brawner. “Unfortunately the family home of Kevin and Rhonda Templeton was a total loss and we believe it was electrical in origin.” The Lafayette Fire Department had two fire engines on the scene, but only utilized one of them, along with a service truck. The department returned to the fire station at 8:14 p.m. The Macon County EMS treated Sgt. Templeton at the scene and Captain Don Stevens, of the Lafayette Fire Department, was transported to Macon County General Hospital to be treated for heat exposure. When Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons was contacted about Sgt. Templeton’s home burning, he said he would like to thank the Lafayette Fire Department and the Red Boiling Springs Fire & Rescue for everything they did. “We ask for prayers for Kevin and his family in their time of need,” said Sheriff Gammons. “We are taking up donations to help the family out.” Those responding to the fire scene were the Lafayette Fire Department, Red Boiling Springs Fire & Rescue, Macon County Sheriffs Department, Macon County EMS, Lafayette Police Department and the Macon County Chronicle.
