Child Rapist Sentenced: 25 Years

Jackie Eugene Smith

On July 15, 2016, Jackie Eugene Smith, age 37, appeared in Judge John Wootten’s Trousdale County courtroom and pled guilty to one count of child rape in Trousdale County and one count of child rape in Macon County. He was sentenced to 25 years at 100% to serve concurrently.

According to Assistant District Attorney Javin Cripps, who spoke with the Macon County Chronicle last week, this case actually began a few years back and it wasn’t until 2013 that authorities became aware of child rape allegations and began investigating. Mr. Smith lived in both of these counties at one time.

Jackie Eugene Smith was arrested by Detective Darrell Taylor, of the Macon County Sheriffs Office, on December 18, 2013. He was charged with rape of a child (2 counts), and incest (2 counts). His bond was $100,000.

Smith was arrested in Trousdale County on February 21, 2014 and charged with one count of rape of a child. His bond was $200,000.

Jackie Smith was later indicted by both counties for unlawfully, intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly engaging in sexual activity with a minor child in violation of Tennessee Code Annotated and against the peace and dignity of the State of Tennessee.

ADA Cripps also stated that the delay in the trial was due to changes in Smith’s representation.

Smith is to serve 25 years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections.
