Tragedy on Old Lake Road

A tragic and unfortunate tractor accident claimed the life of 56-year-old Phillip Hewitt of Red Boiling Springs last week.



The accident happened at 1681 Old Lake Road on Thursday afternoon, August 25, 2016.

According to a report by Detective Shane Gregory, of the Macon County Sheriffs Office, Mr. Hewitt had been bushhogging and it appeared that he had gotten off the tractor to move something. The tractor began moving and he got caught underneath. 

After Mr. Hewitt was found, the Macon County EMS and law enforcement were called and Medical Examiner Steve Jones pronounced Mr. Hewitt deceased at the scene.

Funeral services for Phillip Hewitt were conducted Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs, with Jimmy Cook and Jerry Cherry officiating. 

Interment followed in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park.

Phillip was born Saturday, September 19, 1959, in Smith County, Tennessee, the son of the late Aaron and Wilma Grace Kirby Hewitt. On April 13, 1978 he married the former Cindy Knight, who survives after sharing 38 wonderful years together.

Mr. Hewitt was a member of the Red Boiling Springs Church of Christ.
