2,264 Marijuana Plants Harvested & Destroyed

The operation was conducted on August 31 and September 1.

According to Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons, a helicopter was used to fly over the county and detect  marijuana grow operations. Once spotted, a ground team would then harvest the crops and bring them back to the Macon County Sheriffs Department to be incinerated and destroyed.

The main bulk of the marijuana seized was collected from the east side of the county.

Sheriff Gammons confirmed that one individual has already been prosecuted due to this operation and more arrests could follow.

“Most of the time, people are growing these plants on other people’s property,” the sheriff warned. “Property owners should be aware of this and either search their properties regularly or contact our office so that we can perform a search for them.”
