Record Setting Night in MCHS Win over Jackson County

In a wildly entertaining game for a football fan, Macon County walked away with a 62-42 win over Jackson County.


The wild shootout featured over 863 yards of offense in the 3 ½ hour game.

Hang on for a scoring summary. Seth Carlisle scored first for Macon with a 19 yard run and Joey Medrano added the PAT midway thru the 1st quarter. Jackson answered with a TD and the game was tied 7-7 after one. Carlisle would score on a 51 yard run with 11:49 left in the half. Medrano’s PAT is good, 14-7. At the 8:40 mark Carlisle would cap a 9 play 49 yard drive with a 21 scoring rush. PAT good, 21-7. The Blue Devils would score again but miss the PAT and at the half Macon led 21-13.

Carlisle would add a 23 yard run to score with 9:00 left in the 3rd, PAT good by Medrano and Macon led 28-13. The Tigers would record a safety following a bad snap by the Blue Devils, 30-13. With 4:57 left in the 3rd Jackson County would score to cut the lead to 30-20. On the very next play Carlisle would score on a 68 yard run, PAT was no good 36-20. Jackson County scored on their next possession and converted the 2 point play, 36-28. With 1:16 left in the 3rd Braxton Crawford pounded the ball in for a 13 yard score and the 2 point conversion failed, 42-28. Jackson scored again with 10:59 left, 42-35. Crawford would break a 66 yard run to score with 9:27 left, PAT was good 49-35. Jackson County scored on the next possession, 49-42. With 4:46 left Marshall Avera intercepted the ball and ran it to the 8 yard line where Carlisle scored on the next play. Medrano missed the PAT, 55-42. On the very next possession Carlisle intercepted another ball and returned it 65 yards to score. Medrano add the PAT and your final score Macon 62 Jackson County 42.

Jackson County is a very good football team and is much improved over last season. They may be the best coached team Macon fans have seen in quite some time. Look for them to make some noise in Region 4-2A.

For the game Carlisle was 4 of 15 passing for 7 yards and an INT. Rushing Carlisle ran 19 times for 217 yards and 6TDs. Crawford ran 12 times for 121 yards and 2TDs. Ryan Carver ran 3 for 32 and Eric Kuster ran 1 time for 12 yards. Crawford added 3 catches for 6 yards and Tanner Cleary had one catch for 1 yard. Leading tacklers for the game were Tyler Swindle(10), Dylan Butler(9), and Carver(6).

Seth Carlisle’s 7 touchdowns tie him for 4th all time in TSSAA records for touchdowns scored in a single game. His 42 points also tie him for 4th in the TSSAA record books for points scored in a game. Both are also believed to be Macon County High School records.

Next week the Tigers will travel to Maplewood for a huge region 4-4A contest that could have significant post-season ramifications. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
