Tigers lose to Maplewood
The Macon County Tigers lost to the Maplewood Panthers in a region 4-4A contest.
The contest was much closer than the 38-17 score indicates.
Macon would come out and score first. Seth Carlisle ran it in from 54 yards at the 10:36 mark of the 1st period. The two point conversion failed and Macon led 6-0. Maplewood would score on a long drive of their own and miss the PAT to tie the game 6-6. With 6:43 left in the half Joey Medrano would kick a 26 yard field goal to give the Tigers a 9-6 lead. Maplewood would score a touchdown on their next possession to take a 12-9 lead into the locker room at the half.
With 3:08 left in the 3rd Maplewood would score and get the conversion to lead 20-9. Michael Tirjan would cap a 9 play 90 yard drive with 10:33 left in the game with a 23 yard TD run. The two point conversion from Carlisle to Tanner Cleary was good and the score was 17-20. Maplewood would answer right back on a long scoring drive of their own and get two more late scores on turnovers to put the game out of reach. Final score Maplewood 38 Macon 17.
On the night Carlisle was 3 of 9 passing for 25 yards and rushed 24 times for 170 yards and one TD. Branson Henry was also 1 for 2 for 12 yards. Tirjan rushed 23 times for 161 yards and one TD. Isaac Belton ran 2 times for 10 yards and Braxton Crawford ran one time for 7 yards. Eric Kuster, Adrian Alcorta, Cleary, and Tirjan all had one catch. Linebacker Dylan Butler led the team in tackles with 7 followed by Crawford(6) and McQuery(5). In the game the Tigers were penalized 8 times for 59 yards and fumbled 4 times and lost 2 of them. These mistakes were costly for Macon.
This week is homecoming for the Tigers as they host DeKalb County this Friday night at Pat Parker Field. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
