alt

The Macon County High School Golf team recently competed in their District 8A-AA tournament.

The girls team made up of Connor Roddy, Bailey Powell and McKaylee Mix placed second and advanced to region play. Bailey Powell tied for low medalist among the girls shooting an 88. The boys won 1st place in District 8A-AA and will also advance to region play. That team consists of Josh Hauskin(74), Bryson Smith(75), Landon Polston(78), Chance Presley(81), and Jake Reeves. Hauskin, Smith, and Polston all placed in the top five medalists in the district.

On September 22nd both squads competed at Fall Creek Falls Golf Course in region play. The girls finished in 3rd place and will not advance. However Carson Roddy won a playoff to advance to state as an individual. The Boys won the region by 8 strokes over Signal Mountain.

“Our girl’s have a very difficult Region to get out of, because the teams from the Chattanooga area have won the State Tournament for the past several years.  There’s nothing comparable in high school sports to playing in the State Championships.  Carson Roddy will gain valuable experience even as an individual that will help the mental part of her game next year.  I expect her to continue to play well and finish strong in the state.  We have all three girls back next year and are expectations will be very high.”

“Our goal for the boys at the beginning of this season was to make it to and WIN the State Championship this year.  We lost in a sudden death playoff last year  and now we have reached the stage we were looking to play on; Now, it’s time to go take care of business! This is a special group of young men and they’ve worked very hard to get this opportunity.  I want these young men to have that feeling of pride you get when you’ve accomplished the biggest prize of all–State Champions.”

Macon County is coached by Beverly Shoulders and assisted by Rick Shoulders.
