Homemade Bomb Found During LPD Traffic Stop
A homemade bomb was found inside a vehicle during a routine traffic stop in Lafayette last night and was safely detonated by a Tennessee Highway Patrol bomb squad around 4 a.m. this morning, according to Chief of Police Stacy Gann.
Chief Gann explained that the vehicle was pulled over near Sunshine Market by LPD Officer Derrick Gann around 11 p.m. on Monday, when the bomb was discovered in between the seats.
“The bomb was made of duct tape, detonating cord and nails,” stated Chief Gann. “It was x-rayed and detonated by the THP near the Winding Stairs area around 4 a.m. this morning.”
The two suspects were arrested and have been interviewed by the City Police and the THP.
Their intentions are not known at this time.
