Bulldogs Outlast Clay County

alt

The Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs welcomed the Clay County Bulldogs to the Dog Pound last Friday night.

It was the final home game for RBS and was Senior Night.

Clay County got off to a great start by scoring on their first possession of the game to grab an early lead. Red Boiling Springs came right back and marched down the field and Justin Bergdorffscored on a 4 yard run. Elijah Byfield added the two point conversion and RBS led this game 8-6 in the middle of the 1st period. Clay County would score again in the 1st quarter and would take a 14-8 lead into halftime.

Red Boiling Springs had played a lackluster performance in the first half but the second half was all red and grey. RBS scored two touchdowns in the 3rd period to overcome the halftime deficit and added two more touchdowns in the 4th quarter to put the game away. The Bulldog scoring was led by Justin Bergdorf who scored three touchdowns on runs of 4, 2 ,and 17 yards. RBS scored 30 unanswered points in the second half of this game. Lee Pruitte scored on a 4 yard run in the 4th quarter and Elijah Byfield scampered down the left side for a 67 yard touchdown late in the 3rd quarter. Hunter Kirk played a very good game at quarterback as he has made great progress after taking over at this position mid-way thru the season.

We think the Bulldogs may have set a school record by converting on 4 of 5 two point conversions in one game. We will let you know about that next week. RBS rushed for 292 yards in only 42 carries and only one completed pass for 7 yards. The Bulldogs only threw the ball 2 times the entire game.

This was also Senior night and Red Boiling Springs paid tribute to the following Seniors: Anthony Garcia, Joaquin Mejia, Dustin Bergdorff and Justin Bergdorff, Trevor Carter, Billy York, and Elijah Byfield. RBS will have some big shoes to fill next year because all of these kids were the heart of this team.

The Bulldogs have two games remaining on the schedule. They travel to Trousdale County this Friday night and close out the season at Gordonsville next Friday night. Coach Michael Brown and his staff have done a great job with this team and they deserve a lot of credit for their efforts.
