Tigers Grab Sixth Win
The Macon County Tigers won their 6th game of the season with a victory over the Springfield Yellow Jackets.
Macon gets a big Region 5 4A win by a final score of 10-9.
Both teams failed to score in the 1st quarter. With 12:00 left in the 2nd period Michael Tirjan ran it in from 4 yards. Joey Medrano added the PAT and the Tigers led 7-0. Springfield came right back and kicked a field goal to make it 7-3 with 8:58 left in the first half. The Tigers would march down and Medrano would miss a 35 yard field goal attempt at the end of the half.
Late in the 3rd period Medrano would add another 32 yard field goal to give the Tigers a 10-3 lead. Springfield would mount a late drive and score with less than two minutes in the game. However, rather than perpetuate the game, they chose to take their shot and win in regulation. They failed to convert the two point play and Macon was able to recover the onside kick and run the clock out. Final score Macon County 10 Springfield 9.
In the game Seth Carlisle was 4 of 7 passing for 46 yards and rushed 30 times for 100 yards. Michael Tirjan ran 21 times for 100 yards and a TD. Tirjan (19), Braxton Crawford (18), Chris Oliver (10), and Tanner Cleary (-1) all had one catch each. Dylan Butler led the way again on defense with 8 tackles. He was followed by Crawford and Taylor McQuery with 6 each. The Tigers improve to 6-2 on the season which is the first time since 2003 that MCHS has had a better than .500 season. With one more region win they can guarantee a 3rd place finish and place in the postseason.
This Friday night big 6A Meade County, KY comes calling. Macon rolled into their house last year and beat them handily and I don’t think they were expecting it. I would anticipate them to come calling wanting a little retribution on Oct 21st at Pat Parker Memorial Field.
