Junior Tigers Best Christiana

alt

The Macon County Junior High basketball teams were able to notch two thrilling victories over Christiana on Thursday November 10th.

In the girls game both teams were tied 10 all after the first period. Both teams seemed to settle down and it looked like this game might settle into a defensive battle. Macon made the plays to take a 15-14 lead into the locker room. In the 3rd period the ball just seemed to bounce the Tigerette way. Good shooting and great hustle pushed them to a 30-21 lead after the 3rd quarter. With each Christiana run, Macon would answer enroute to a 46-33 victory that was a great game for a fan to watch. Of special note, seasoned middle school basketball fans found another Bransford coaching as Corey Bransford, son of longtime CES middle school coach Bobby Bransford, was at the helm of the Christiana girls team. It made me feel a little brittle.

Scoring was: Jalynn Gregory 8, Abby Shoulders 15, Kyndal Ludick 13, Emily Ashburn 4, Taylor Ward 2, and Casey Ray 4. Hallie Dickens, Cadence Carter, and Bailey Thomas all played but did not score.

The boys game was an up-and-down affair. Christiana had two kids well over 6’ tall and the team looked long, lean, and athletic. However, looks can be deceiving. Macon led 10-8 after the first period and looked to take a decent lead at the break but Christiana scored the last 5 points in the half on a rattled Macon squad to lead 18-17. Being completely objective, Macon benefited from some poor calls against Christiana which led to two technical fouls called on them, one midway thru the 3rd and one in the closing minutes of the game. The junior Tigers simply made the plays and sunk 10 of 15 free throws down the stretch to pull away and get the win by a score of 55-47.

Scoring was: Ethan Jenkins 20, Isacc Meador 6, Conner Johnson 15, Gavin Claiborne 9, Logan Whittemore 3, and Kyson Herald 2. Riley Cook played but did not score.

On Nov 7th Macon split with Mt Juliet with the girls winning 49-25 and the boys losing 20-47. For the girls Gregory scored 26, Shoulders 8, Ludick 7, Ashburn 4, and Ward 4. For the boys Jenkins scored 3, Meador 9, Whittemore 2, Herald 2, and Zach Dallas 2.

On Nov 8th Macon got two wins at Smith County. The girls won 30-6 and scoring was: Gregory 6, Shoulders 8, Ludick 2, Ashburn 4, Ward 7, Ray 2, and Emily Davis 1. The boys won 53-35 and scoring was: Jenkins 25, Meador 11, Johnson 10, Cook 4, and Whittemore 3.
