Clay Co Sweeps RBSHS Boys and Girls
Whenever Clay County and Red Boiling Springs get together for a sporting event you can expect a huge crowd and kids that compete very hard.
That was the case last Tuesday as Clay County paid the Bulldogs a visit and the Clay County girls won going away by a final score of 54-38. The boy’s game was never in doubt as Clay rolled to a convincing 72-37 win.
Before a standing room only crowd the girl’s game was an uphill battle all the way as Clay County used their height and quickness to grab a first quarter lead of 19-12. The Lady Bulldogs played hard to keep the game close and we have a 26-19 Clay County lead at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs got first half scoring from Cayley Tuck with 5 points followed by Shaylee Ellingson with 3 points and Kennedy Fleming and Macy Raines each had a basket. Hailey Davis, Katie Heady, and Ellingson had a basket each while Fleming nailed a nice 3 pointer to account for the Lady Bulldog scoring in the second quarter. Clay County picked up a full court defense and the Lady Bulldogs could only manage six points in the third period. Clay led going into the fourth quarter 42-25 and the girls from Celina coasted the rest of the game with their reserves.
Some stats that jump out show the Clay County girls with a 22-12 advantage in points in the paint and 22-11 points off turnovers. Clay County enjoyed a large advantage in size. Scoring totals for the Lady Bulldogs-Davis-10 points. Heady and Fleming both scored 8 points-Tuck and Ellingson each had 5 points and Raines finished with 2 points.
The Boys game was all Clay County as they jumped out to a 21-4 first quarter lead and led at halftime 37-20. The Bulldogs played uphill all game and never found their shooting touch to make any kind of run at the Celina kids. Clay features three of the best players in Class A and they go 10 deep. When you can do this you are going to win a lot of basketball games.
Scoring totals for the Bulldogs-Elijah Byfield 12 points-Matthew Murphy 7 points-Jordan Powell 6 points-Dustin Bergdorf 8 points. Byfield had four 3 pointers to account for his total.
The Bulldogs now wait for the Pickett County Bobcats to visit the Dog Pound on Friday Dec 2nd.
